Being an editor on PatchValues.com helps keep the site up-to-date and correct. Being an editor involves working as part of a team to list new issues in the directory and revise any previous submissions that are incorrect. If you are familiar with patch issues from a particular OA Lodge, Council, or Camp, you are invited to apply to become an editor.
Application Information
General Information
- You don't have to be an editor to submit information.
- An editor for an OA Lodge should attempt to make the listing for that lodge as complete as possible, including images.
- PatchValues.com does not attempt to designate issues. Please refer to oaimages.com or the blue book for that information.
- If accepted as an editor you are encouraged to regularly submit value information including eBay sales, eBay unsold, educated opinions, sale lists, private sales, auctions, etc.
- Your chances of becoming an editor are greater if you are a member of the Lodge or Council you want to edit, but it is not an absolute requirement as long as you are familiar with the lodge or council.
- An editor may not have more than one user name. Multiple user names is considered grounds for removal.
- Editor privileges expire if you do not login within the first month, or, if you do not edit for a consecutive period of four months. If you are a former editor whose has lost your editor status due to inactivity, don't fill out a new application. Send an email or Facebook message to me instead.
Filling Out the Application Form
- Your application should be complete. As part of the application you will submit a new patch issue. Be sure to submit a proper image and follow our submission guidelines. The submission should relate to the lodge/council you are applying to edit.
- Your application is an indication of the kind of editor you will be. A poorly written application with spelling and grammatical errors is unlikely to be approved.
- Our goal is to make PatchValues.com a fair and impartial resource for patch collectors. Editors who are primarily interested in manipulating values for their own advantage may have their editor accounts revoked without notice.
- Please include references that are members of the Scout Patch Collectors Facebook group, if possible.
Describing a Patch
- If a patch has not yet been classified, use the year of issue rather than an issue number. For instance, a fully embroidered lodge flap issued in 2013 would be listed as S-2013. When the issue is designated, the editor can revise the issue number.
- The suffix can be a short description of the issue. An arrowhead shaped event issue would be "eA-2013-Fall Fellowship".
- In the "patch description" field try to include unique text or features that distinguish this patch from similar issues.
Patch Scanning Tips
- We want good images, closely cropped. Fuzzy pictures, pictures lifted from eBay, oaimages.com, councilstrip.com, etc, should not be submitted and will be cause to have your editor account revoked.
- Two-part patches such as a lodge flap with a chevron or dangle should be scanned together.
- To add an image, save the image on your computer as a .jpg file. Please try to scan with a white background & crop a flap or council strip to a width of 500 pixels and 72 pixels per inch, without extra white space around the image. Images must be less than 100 KB in size, so adjust the resolution to stay within that file size prior to submitting.
- If you aren't a talented photoshop user there are free photo editors online, such as www.picmonkey.com
Application Review
- Your application will be reviewed by one or more PatchValues.com editors. We make every effort to accept new editors who will add value to the site and the patch trading community, however, we don't accept all applications. You may reapply if your application is denied.
